Ikea plugs into in-store kiosks

Home furnishing retailer IKEA has returned to using in-store kiosks again with the installation of up to 30 units in six Belgian stores that allow customers to join its ‘IKEA family’ loyalty scheme.

The kiosks are also being trialed in other Ikea stores within Europe although there are no plans at present to roll them out within the UK. The devices, created by Quant Marketing and Protouch, have 19 inch screens and allow customers to sign up for the company’s loyalty scheme without staff assistance. In addition they are also being used to display personalised information notifying customers about upcoming promotions, future Sales and in-store events.

This represents a return by Ikea to using such technology as it had previously installed kiosks in a number of its stores around the world giving access to its website and allowing customers to sign up to its credit card.

Tim Schroons of Ikea Belgium, says: “We are very happy with the Ikea family registration kiosks that are installed in all Belgian Ikea stores. They allow us to have a much more efficient way of recruiting new Ikea family members without the presence of a co-worker being required. This versatile solution allows us to recruit new members and have existing members print out a temporary card or update their customer profile in a user friendly way.”

Tom Quarry, managing director of Protouch, says, “We are really excited to be involved in Quants’ kiosk solution for Ikea. It is great to see our kiosks working so well within the project by improving Ikea’s operations and enhancing in-store experience for its customers.”
