Amazon Offers Shopping Via Text Message
E-commerce firm Amazon unveiled a new U.S shopping service, called TextBuyIt, which uses text messages for mobile phone shopping.
To make a purchase, customers send a text message to ôAmazonö (262966) with the name of the product, search term or a UPC or ISBN code. Amazon replies with a numbered list of the products that match the search, along with their prices. Customers reply to the text message with the reference number of the item they have selected. They then receive a phone call from Amazon with the final details of their order and are asked to either confirm or cancel the purchase. Amazon completes the transaction using stored customer preferences for payment method and shipping address. ôWith TextBuyIt, if youÆre walking out of a concert and want to buy a CD from the artist you just saw, or youÆre at dinner and a friend tells you about a book you should read, just get out your mobile device, send a text message to Amazon, reply to the response, confirm your order, and your item is on its way,ö says Howard Gefen, director of Amazon Mobile Payments. TextBuyIt is in addition to AmazonÆs existing mobile shopping service which uses mobile Internet browsers. Related Links
