French Contactless Chip Firm in Chinese NFC Rollout
Inside Contactless is to supply Near Field Communications (NFC) chips for China's first contactless mobile payment project. The French contactless chip vendor says the initiative is the first large-scale, commercial mobile payment deployment in the world,.
Inside Contactless says it is supplying its MicroRead technology as the preferred NFC chip for the Chongqing Province project. Chongqing Province has a population of over 31 million, it notes. The partners in the project include local mobile operator China Mobile Chongqing Company, Chinese m-commerce software developer Just In Mobile, and several Chinese banks. The project involves installing a payment application on a subscriberÆs cellphone SIM cards, which is connected to the MicroRead chip. The application enables subscribers to make contactless purchases via cellphone at several thousand stores in Chongqing Province, Inside Contactless says. The application is based on the People's Bank of ChinaÆs (PBOC) contactless payment standard. The PBOC standard is also used in millions of Chinese contactless bank cards, Inside Contactless says.
