Banamex Readies PayPass Trial at McDonald's

Banamex, a subsidiary of Citigroup, plans to carry out Mexico's first MasterCard PayPass contactless trial in McDonald's fast-food outlets in the city of Monterrey. As part of the pilot, contactless terminals will be installed at all McDonald's restaurants in Monterrey.

The contactless EMV cards, manufactured by CPI Card Group of Littleton, Colorado, will use Australian smart card firm Keycorp's dual-interface chip which runs on the MULTOS multi-user smart card operating system. The Keycorp chip supports both contact-based and contactless transactions as well as EMV chip-and-PIN card payments.

Banamex, one of Mexico's largest banks, will handle personalization of the contactless cards in its in-house card management bureau.

Separately, CPI and France's Inside Contactless have been selected by Visa Latin America to provide contactless cards for three major banks in Guatemala.

The contactless cards will be manufactured by CPI and will include Inside Contactless's MicroPass chip technology. They will be issued by Banco Uno, Banco Custcatlan and Bi-Credit, CPI says.
