Signet Group Rolls Chip & PIN Out Across The UK

Jewelry retailer Signet Group has become one of the first UK retailers to deploy chip and PIN technology nationwide across its group of 605 stores. Signet Group chose to implement an integrated ePOS and chip & PIN solution and obtained Acquirer Acceptance Testing from Barclays Bank. As a jewelry retailer Signet, which operates the brands H. Samuel, Ernest Jones and Leslie Davis, realized its need for secure payment systems to reduce card fraud in the post-EMV environment. To give customers easy access to PIN pads at its stores, Signet introduced a cabling solution while upgrading its network infrastructure.

Despite using six suppliers for its EMV upgrade project, Signet and its systems integrator completed the implementation and accreditation processes on time and within budget. Signet Group is the worldÆs largest specialty retail jeweler and also has operations in the US, where it trades as ôKay Jewelersö, ôSterling Jewelersö, ôJared The Galleria of Jewelryö and under several regional names. At end-December 2004, eight in ten (85 per cent) UK retailers were chip and PIN-ready according to APACS figures and through 2005, projects will continue as more retailers see the need to protect against card fraud.
