SmartTrust Unveils Mobile Payment Product

Sonera SmartTrust has launched SmartTrust TopUp, termed as 'the first mass-market mobile payment service', to enable carriers to add wireless banking and EBPP to their services. The solution, which scales to support additional services at a later date, works with multiple payment methods, including credit and debit cards. Customers initiate wireless transactions by using PIN-based SMS to authenticate themselves, and to authorize payments in progress.

The solution interfaces with the existing prepaid infrastructure of wireless operators, and interacts with any payment clearance facilities, whether in-house or outsourced. Carriers adopting such solutions can derive additional revenues from high-value services, while familiarizing customers with the wireless payment process. SmartTrust's newly launched Certificate Manager also supports the wireless PKI solutions of Identrus member banks.

In separate news, Motorola and Entrust said Entrust's PKI products would be integrated with Motorola's wireless range for the security of wireless transactions. Similarly, Baltimore Technologies is to render its UniCERT system compatible with the WAP-compliant SIM/WIM card of Schlumberger Ltd. Baltimore's UniCERT system will be interfaced to Schlumberger's regional hubs, to facilitate the bulk issuance of SIM/WIM cards containing digital certificates.
